Throughout the past costumes were beautiful - there were a lot of different ways of dressing, and these varied between countries and social classes. People in the court were dressed differently to the bourgeoisie. French were dressed differently to British, Italians or Germans. Charles Frederic Worth decided that he wanted to be more than a supplier to Her Imperial Highness Eugenie of France and if he was an artist he started to sign his creations. This meant the birth of the trade mark. the fournisseur became a couturier. And this meant that Charles Frederic Worth created fashion.
Charles Frederic Worth (born 13th October 1825 - England, died 10th March 1895- France - aged 69) known as the Father of Haute Couture. Worth came to Paris at the age of 20, after a seven-year apprenticeship London textile trade. In 1858 after 13 years Charles Frederic Worth funded his own couture house in Rue de la Paix with Swedish partner Boberg.
French haute couture had first triumphant appearance at 1900 World Fair in Paris. Worth and Doucet dressed stage stars such as Eleonora Duse and Sarah Bernhardt showed their beautiful and spectacular creations to an fascinated international audience.
